GENERAL MEETING: 187

MEETING NUMBER: 187

Date: 06/01/2017

Venue:VIT board room

Time: 12:30 pm-02:30 pm

THEME: “SUPERNATURAL

‘Silence’, it speaks a lot. Try to listen to the sounds around you in silence. Have you ever felt the powers that you can’t see? Have you ever felt a power that’s driving you and you can’t understand why? Have you ever tried to answer the ever prompting question, “Is it real?”? Yes, surely you must have and termed those weird powers as ‘supernatural’.

Supernatural that which is not from the observable, tangible, or measurable universe, or ,in simple words, “beyond nature”. There are many words related to this, like mystical, spiritualistic, divine or metaphysical. On one hand, many think ‘’supernatural” simply means there’s no known explanation for it yet. They use ‘supernatural’ as a stopgap measure (commonly called as ‘the God of the Gaps’) until somebody finds a reasonably reasonable ‘answer’. While others use ‘supernatural’ to describe just about anything that happens a little strangely. Some people are prone to superstition, UFOs and lifestyle fictions. Like, while praying for someone, if the flame of the diya blows out, then the person you were praying for is in major harm might even DIE; a funny looking cloud or lightning will make people think about UFOs or aliens.

With keeping this theme in mind a general meeting was organized in VIT toastmasters and it was initiated by our former SAA TM Rishabh in absence of present presiding officer. After getting acquainted with the basic code of conduct of the meeting by SAA, the TMOD TM Hemant initiated the meeting.

The TMOD Tm Hemant initiated very dramatically, in accordance with the theme, with lights off and a candle in hand. He made the ambiance full of supernatural powers by his imaginative situations of being in a castle, abandoned from years, in which all other members have dared to enter unaware of the outcomes. He even made the table topic session more interesting by saying, “Imagine you are driving on an empty road and its midnight. Suddenly your car broke down and a shadow appears on the road. It’s becoming bigger, bigger and boom! It enters in the car and chokes you. The same happens in the table topic session of our meeting. You see those devils, the topics, in front of you and they choke you for a while. But, we need to fight and defeat them to break the fetters and move ahead. So, I would like to call upon thestage the TTM for today’s meeting, Tm Mahima.”

This first meeting of new tenure had five sessions. The first session involved theintroduction of new EC members to other members. The second session was prepared speech session in which speakers were guided from their modules. The third session was Table Topic session (commonly termed as extempore) in which members got a topic to speak with their instantaneous thoughts. The fourth session was Evaluation session in which evaluators gave their feedback for the speakers guided by modules. The fifth session was announcing the winners, i.e., best speaker, best table topic speaker and best evaluator. Members of VIT TOASTMASTERS family justified their projects beyond expectations.
