GENERAL MEETING - 185

GENERAL MEETING:185
Date: 18/10/2016
Venue: VIT Board Room
Time: 12:30-02:30

THEME:”Diwali”
Diwali, also called Deepavali or Dipawali, the Hindu festival of lights, is the most popular and special of all Hindu festivals. It is also an occasion for celebration by *Jains and *Sikhs.
The festival of Diwali extends over five days. The date of Diwali is set by the Hindu calendar so it varies in the Western calendar. It usually falls in October or November and because of the lights, fireworks and sweets involved, it's a great favourite with children.
The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, although the actual legends that go with the festival are different in different parts of India.
*In Jainism people come together over three days and celebrate the Nirvana of Lord Mahavira and welcome in the New Year. Whereas for Sikhs, Diwali celebrates the release of the Guru, HargobindJi from imprisonment and people celebrate by lighting the way to the Golden Temple.

With keeping this theme in mind a general meeting was organized in VIT Toastmasters which was initiated by SAA Tm Rishabh introducing the basic rules of meeting.
The TMOD Tm Yash initiated the meeting with sweet and knowledgeable facts.

The meeting had four sessions.

GENERAL MEETING - 182

GENERAL MEETING:182
Meeting no.:182
Venue: VGU  Board Room
Time: 12:30-02:30

THEME:"PATIENCE"
With keeping this theme in mind a general meeting was organized in VIT Toastmasters which was initiated by SAA Tm Rishabh introducing the basic rules of meeting.
The TMOD Tm Saurabh initiated the meeting with a sweet and knowledgeable anecdote. Which made every person  feel about the value of patience. The anecdote goes like:
A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three year old girl in her basket.

As they passed the cookie section, the little girl asked for cookies and her mother told her no. The little girl immediately began to whine and fuss. The mother said quietly,
“Now Monica, we just have half of the aisles left to go through; don’t be upset. It won’t be long.”

Soon they came to the candy aisle, and the little girl began to shout for candy. And when told she couldn't have any, began to cry. The mother said,
“There, there, Monica, only two more aisles to go, and then we’ll be checking out.”

When they got to the check-out stand, the little girls immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a terrible tantrum upon discovering there would be no gum purchased. The mother patiently said,
“Monica, we’ll be through this check out stand in 5 minutes and then you can go home and have a nice nap.”

The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to compliment her.
“I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with little Monica,” he said.
Whereupon the mother said,
“I’m Monica . . . my little girl’s name is Tammy.”

The meeting had four sessions.
First session was prepared speech session in which speakers were guided from their modules. Second session was Table Topic session in which members got a topic to speak with their instantaneous thoughts. Third session was Evaluation session in which evaluators gave their feedback for the speakers guided by modules and FourthSession was announcing the winners (i.e. best speaker, best table topic speaker, best evaluator).Students justified the theme “Patience" well with active and free delivery of their thoughts in all the four sessions of the meeting.
